Proposed law

Senators’ bill would ease the pain and expense



A bill proposed by New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois
Senator Barack Obama would encourage medical providers to acknowledge
mistakes and agree on compensation.

It sounds like a good idea. But it is likely to face fierce opposition from
special interests that are making a lot of money from the present adversarial
situation, particularly the law firms that make millions of dollars defending
often weak cases.

TV program may include Lisa’s case

A producer with a TV production company in California has expressed an
interest in what happened to Lisa while she was a patient in Samaritan
Hospital. The company is making a documentary for PBS.
